In Black and White

The theme for this challenge is colour- or rather lack of it! Black and white photos can look striking as our eyes focus on the detail rather than the colours, and if you can get your pet to sit still long enough, you can get some gorgeous shots of them. So the challenge this time is to scrap black and white photos of your pets. The DT have taken this a bit further and scrapped their entire layouts in black and white, with a few splashes of colour!

Arty Pets!

For this challenge we want to see your pets as works of art! There are a range of software programmes available to us to alter photos nowadays, from Photoshop to Picasa. Along with standard functions like cropping and retouching, there are a number of nifty little gadgets you can use to create some crazy effects! So whether you want to Warhol your cats like Karen and Shelly, or make your dog into a comic book character like Katy, or even do it old school style and alter your photos using paints and inks, we'd love to see what you create! Alternatively, maybe your pet itself is handy (or should that be pawy or clawy!) with some paints and has made their own masterpiece!

Dr. Seuss (Ted Geisel) was born on March 2nd, 1904. When he died in 1991, he left a catalog of over 44 books and some truly amazing artwork. He was an incredibly brilliant and talented man – read more about him here Cat in the Hat.

For this challenge, we ask that you use a Dr. Seuss book title for your layout (feel free to use a little artistic license to make the title fit your pet!), some Dr. Seuss prose, or some Dr. Seuss type designs!

We hope that you have as much fun with this challenge as we did, and to sweeten the deal, Helmar Adhesives is sponsoring this challenge with a fabulous selection of their craft adhesives. Pet Casualty

It happens, a run in with a car or another animal, maybe a simple allergy or annual shots - - a trip to the vet is required. For me, it seems to happen a lot...I have a 3-Legged dog, a tail-less cat and have owned 2 dogs that were insulin dependant diabetics and eventually went blind. I know everyone in Dr. Judy's office very well!! Maybe you are one of those lucky pet owners like my sister - - her last dog went to the vet only twice (for shots and to be spayed) in her entire 16 year life! Maybe the universe knows that I have a soft spot for "special needs" pets! Let see layouts about your pet's health (good or bad), accidents and visits with the vet. As the nation goes 'back to school' crazy as we roll on into Septmeber, let's think about the sort of 'schooling' your true friends have.
Maybe you have a dog who was the star of the puppy obedience classes - or maybe they were not. Maybe they have entered shows and won rosettes.
Maybe you try to educate your pet yourself. I know I try - and fail on a daily basis with one of them.
How do you try to train your pet? How do they respond? Are they willing pupils or do they need to be stood in the naughty corner with the dunce's hat on?

And let's be honest here. 9 times out of 10 isn't it we who are the pupils and who get 'educated' by our pets!

True Confessions (Your "Dirty Little Secrets")

If a tabloid photographer were stalking you and your pet, what photo and headline would be splashed across the front page the next day? What thing (or things) do you do, or allow your pet to do that leave your non-pet owning friends and family shaking their heads (or would make them turn and run if they knew)? I have friends that don't allow pets in the house at all and would be horrified to see Elephant the cat saunter across my kitchen counter (not that he's allowed to do this – he does it to make me jump up off the couch and come pay attention to him!). It could be as innocent as letting the pets on the beds and couches, or maybe you are like my husband who shares a bowl of ice cream with his faithful bird dog - - and they use the SAME SPOON.

As for me, well, I guess my layout title says it all.......

While usually cute and cuddly, our pets can sometimes have a particular dislike of someone or something. Or maybe they have an opponent they like to stare out the window at and annoy, whilst looking like they're plotting some fiendish plan!!

Who is the Joker to your pet's Batman? The Tom to your Jerry? Maybe there's a dog on your daily walkies that your pet likes to taunt? Or is there an all-out war every mealtime with your pets fighting to get the biggest bowl of food, or competitions for the best seat in the house? Or maybe a specific pair of shoes or a toy that your pet likes to have a tussle with!

The soundtrack for your pet's life.

If you had to think of a piece of music, a song or a soundtrack for your pet, what would it be.
Are they the cute cuddly 'Sugar Baby Love' sort of friend, would you go with 'You've got a friend in me' or maybe something like the song which sprang to my mind for a certain Fiki Monster - Bat out of Hell!

It might be the music which seems to tell about the rhythm of your pet's life or maybe the lyrics describe them, or your relationship with them, to a tee.

I will be fascinated to see what you all come up with and how you interpret the challenge.

I'm sure most of us love a bit of crime tv and any self respecting drama nowadays has a healthy helping of forensic investigation thown in for good measure. Those cunning cops and agents can decipher a 'perp' from a single hair or a drop of DNA...

So for this challenge the True Friend Team goes all Mulder and Scully, or Brennan and Booth or even a bit Gil Grissom and seek out the evidence your pets leave behind! The ways you could know they'd been around if if they were nowhere to be seen!

We all have cute photos. Photos that make us say "awww". This weeks challenge is to scrap those photos.

Our guest designer this week is Karen Miller (K3).

"I am a thirty-something wife and mum of 3, and have been scrapping for around 3 ½ years now. We have had various pets over the years, including canaries, rabbits, rats, a hamster and (my true love) dogs. At the moment, we have a 2 year old Border Terrier called Max, who is completely bonkers. Photos of him are few and far between because he never sits still, but I can sometimes bribe him with food.

We used to own two Boxers, Dexter and Scully, who were the biggest pair of softies you could ever meet, but had to sadly rehome them about 6 years ago due to family circumstances. I still love them dearly and wish things had turned out differently.

For this challenge, I used some of the very first photos we have of Scully. They’re old and quality isn’t great but she was such a little sweetie that I HAD to choose these because they always make me go “Awwww” when I see them. Thanks for asking me to play along this week."

Heres a little bit about each of our new designers.

Lori "I live with my husband and our 3 cats; Moo, Gizzy and Apollo, plus a few tropical fish. I've been scrapping for a couple of years and can safely say that the cats are my most scrapped subject! My style ranges from extremely cluttered and bright to shabby chic, but there's usually a kitty cat in there somewhere!I'm thrilled to be a part of A True Friend and to share with love of quirky pets with others!"

Shelly "I am a native California, born & raised in San Diego. I will be celebrating my 3rd anniversary next month with my husband. Together we share our home with 3 dogs (Henry, Peetie and Copper) 1 cat (Elephant) and Sheldon the Wonder Turtle - he is a Red Ear Slider aquatic turtle. Of course, I am always looking to add another to the mix! When I am not scrapping, my husband and I enjoy fishing (fresh & saltwater) off-roading in the desert and traveling through Mexico. I also love reading, crossword puzzles and sewing. I am very excited to be part of this Design Team & look forward to challenging people and hopefully inspiring them with my animal layouts!"

It's my turn today to share a little Christmas 'something'. I found these cork and melamine coasters in a Pound store and thought they'd be perfect to alter to be Christmas decorations using some pictures of my girls in their festive outfits!

A circle of patterned paper (Basic Grey - Figgy Pudding) was added to each side of the coaster, pictures were added and I used American Crafts Thickers for the lettering. The coasters are quite thick but it was no problem to punch a hole all the way through using my trusty Cropadile!

We all take photos of our pets at christmas whether it be opening their presents, playing with their new toys or even posing in those cute santa outfits lol But sometimes we never scrap all those photos and they end up being left on the computer. So why not alter an old dvd cover to keep the photos in? Heres what i made.

The good thing about these covers is that you can use them for anything! They could be altered to keep any of your photos in. Im making more for the rest of my pet photos lol

Thankyou Clare for coming to play :) Heres Clare's bio: "I've been scrapping for 5 years now, 3 of those seriously (just dabbled here and there before that) and even though I have had cats in all that time, I don't get to do that many pet pages - Its very hard being a scrapping fur mommy with a little lady who refuses to have her photo taken! I have to sneak up on her or use a long zoom, or stuff her full of dinner and treats so she's too full to move when she sees the camera come out LOL! I wasn't allowed a cat at home when I was a child as my Mum is terrified of animals. Since leaving the parental home at 18 I have had cats in my home and I don't think it would be a 'home' without a fur baby. My main man Coco was with me for 17 1/2 years and I still miss him now, nearly 4 years after he crossed to Rainbow Bridge. Now we have Lola who turned 3 in June, my first tortie, and she's a cat like no other I've ever met!"

"Hi! My name is Kim. Let me tell you a little bit about me :) I'm 34 yrs old & live in northeast TN with my dh of 12 years, Billy. We are owned by 2 of the most rotten English bulldogs you've ever seen! Pudgie is our big boy. We've had him since he was pup, and he just turned 9. Belle is about 6 years old, and has been with us a little over a year now. She is the second bulldog we have had the pleasure of adopting. "My name is Katie, apparently I'm 37 years old and I live in Oxfordshire with my very tolerant husband and our three children. I say tolerant because of them putting up with my messy habits with glitter, inks and UTEE or 'Mummy's 'speriments' as my youngest calls them. I've been scrapping for about fours years although I've crafted since I was small and in the winter I hibernate and knit!In July this year we had a new family member join us, Willow the Beagle! Willow is our first dog and although we are on a steep learning curve we are having a ball! I have that as well as learning to look after Willow I've also had to learn to photograph and scrapbook her! After three children, who have been quite well trained to either 'pose' or 'ignore the camera' Willow is a whole new kettle of fish, more interested in sticking her nose in the lens!!But we love her to bits and she has some endearing habits that I have recorded in my layout (and some less than endearing ones I'll gloss over for now!)"
